- Excelsior Brigade Fife &
Drum Corps. "The Excelsior Brigade Fife & Drum Corps is a living
history organization dedicated to providing field music representing New
York State Volunteer Infantry units found during the American Civil War.
With no dues, and the corps providing instruments and uniforms, this unit
invites families to join and learn the fife, snare drum or bass drum, cary
our nation's colors, or provide civilian support at parades, concerts,
festivals and reenacting events all around Western New York with
occasional performance trips to Virginia, Connecticut and other
destinations. This is a low-cost way to get into reenacting and to learn
19th Century music and military drill techniques."

Or, based in Rochester, NY, is a Grade IV competition and teaching band.
Kevin Angus is the band's Pipe Major. Feadan Or (pronounced FAY-den OR) is
Gaelic for "Chanter of Gold". The band wears the Ancient Macmillan tartan
and plays Gibson chanters."
- Fiddlers of the
Genesee, Inc. "Fiddlers of the Genesee, Inc. is a non-profit
music club devoted to the preservation of the "old-time" traditional music
of the Genesee Valley in Upstate New York. Fiddlers of the Genesee
(FOG) was founded in 1991 at the Fiddlers' Fair at the Genesee Country
Village and Museum, and has met almost every week since then to learn new
tunes, play old ones, and in general enjoy music and musical friendships."

Society. ( Dissolved as of 8/05) "Formed as a not-for-profit organization in 1985, GEMS
fosters interest in and support for early music. Our musicians play
authentic instruments and adhere to historically correct performance
practices. GEMS also provides performing opportunities for aspiring
early-music professionals. Among other activities, GEMS presents a concert
series annually that encompasses masterworks from Medieval, Renaissance,
Baroque and Classical, to early Romantic composers. In keeping with GEMS'
conviction that its concerts should be as open and accessible as possible,
most concerts are free. GEMS' performances usually are held at the
Memorial Art Gallery, in collaboration with the MAG, and at Kilbourn Hall,
in collaboration with the Eastman School of Music. GEMS' performances are
underwritten in part with public funds from the New York State Council on
the Arts."

Drum. "Genesee Valley Fife & Drum (Rochester/Canandaigua, NY)
was formed in 1999 by local area musicians as a creative outlet to explore
the many faces of fife & drum music. We strive for quality and distinction

while meeting these goals! We are a "family corps" and accept members of
all ages. We wish to pass on to others the experience and teachings given
to us by many great fifers and drummers before us, and to keep the Spirit

Comhaltas Ceolt�ir� �ireann, pronounced coal-tis kyol-tory air-in, is an
international organization dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of
traditional Irish music, dance, language and culture. The Irish
translation is roughly," A Gathering of Irish Musicians". Our organization
is often called CCE or simply Comhaltas. Founded in 1951 in Ireland,
Comhaltas has grown to encompass four continents, with over 400 branches
worldwide. (60 in North America) CCE has no political or religious agenda
and you do not have to be Irish to join or attend our events. Comhaltas is
open to anyone interested in traditional Irish culture. The organization
offers a wide variety of activities that include music jam sessions, Irish
country dance workshops, ceilis (kay-lees, dances with live traditional
music), celebrity concerts, music lessons and Irish language classes."

is an eighteen-voice chamber ensemble founded in 1975. Well known for its
core repertoire of sixteenth and seventeenth century madrigals and motets,

includes a wide variety of traditional and contemporary styles. Based in
Rochester, New York, Madrigalia performs for loyal and enthusiastic

was formed in 1995 by directors Steven Zohn and Thomas Folan to perform
music of the seventeenth, eighteenth, and early nineteenth centuries in an
historically-aware manner, using period instruments and performing
techniques. Deriving its name from The Private Musick, the
ensemble of instrumentalists and vocalists employed by King James II of
England during the late seventeenth century, The Publick Musick
appears as an orchestra, professional chorus, and chamber ensemble. The
ensemble's members are also noted soloists and have performed and recorded
with many leading North American and European early music ensembles. Fast
establishing a reputation for its virtuosic music-making and imaginative
programming, The Publick Musick has performed for enthusiastic
audiences across the northeastern United States."

" Since 1964, the Rochester Chamber Orchestra has become known for its
valuable cultural and educational service to the Rochester community,
offering the outstanding repertory of chamber orchestra music from the

and students. The RCO was established with encouragement and assistance of
the major faculty at the Eastman School of Music, including director Dr.
Howard Hanson, and the principal players of the Rochester Philharmonic
Orchestra. David Fetler, then on the

Stokowski and the American Symphony Orchestra in New York, became the

"Since 1958, the Smugtown Stompers have been preserving the heritage of
early jazz. Named for hometown Rochester, NY (Smugtown, USA, according to
the name of a book about Rochester society), the band performs blues,
ragtime, dixieland, and pop tunes from the 1890 - 1930 period.
The band was formed by the late Rochester cornetist and internationally
known record collector, Bob Fertig. His massive record collection and many
friends in the jazz scene are the sources of the band's music."

and drum corps. "The Towpath Volunteers fife and drum corps is
Celebrating 25 years of fife and drumming excellence in 2003. Available
for parades and festivals in and around the Rochester Settlement. The
corps has performed at Walt Disney World in Orlando 3 times and planning
trips to perform at Williamsburg in 2003 and Tournament of Roses Parade
and Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in 2004. Open to all, a great way to have
