Traditional Reiki is an ancient form of healing that rebalances the
body, thus helping the body heal itself physically, mentally,
emotionally and spiritually. It is used to ease pain, stress and
tension, and is a useful adjunct to western medicine. Reiki is practiced
in every country in the world, is used in hospital, hospice, and office
settings. Reiki is the practice of transmitting healing energy through
the hands. “Rei” [ra] means spiritual or sacred and “ki” [ke] means
universal life force energy [that spark that animates all living
things]. Reiki is the one thing on this earth that has no opposite or
down side. It is a technique for balancing and aligning a client’s
energies naturally within his/her physical, emotional, mental and spirit
bodies at all levels and dimensions."

Elizabeth Wende Breast
Clinic. "The Elizabeth Wende Breast Clinic, founded by Wende
Logan-Young, M.D. in 1976, is the nation's first freestanding mammography
and breast imaging center, devoted to breast disease detection. It is also
ranked as one of the nation's leading breast care facilities, and has been
given a grant by Blue Cross/Blue
Shield to define a "Center of Excellence".
The Elizabeth Wende Breast Clinic's founding and continuing philosophy
is that each patient is treated as uniquely as her situation deems. Every
patient receives the full results of her exams before she leaves the

are performed during the same appointment, rather than have the patient
return at a later date. This helps to reduce a woman's anxiety over
waiting for additional appointments, tests and results."

Not Me Not Now.
"In 1994, Monroe County launched Not Me, Not Now, a multifaceted
abstinence-only campaign to reduce the teen pregnancy rate in Monroe
County.
An advertising campaign serves as the centerpiece of Not Me, Not Now. The
campaign, which features children, communicates the consequences of
teenage pregnancy and motivates teens to remain abstinent.
Not Me, Not Now has expanded its efforts by visiting area schools to
discuss the program in more detail and explore how various components can
be incorporated into existing curriculums. This outreach has increased the
awareness of Not Me, Not Now to those who were once unfamiliar with the
program. Many administrators and teachers have found that the materials
compliment their lessons.
New this year, a quarterly newsletter will be mailed to kids, ages 9-14,
throughout Monroe County. Through this huge undertaking, the County is
confident that the Not Me, Not Now message will be reinforced."

Alternatives for
Battered Women. "Twenty five years ago, a group of concerned
community members vowed that no one in danger of being abused in their own
homes, by their own loved ones, should ever be alone and without refuge
again.
They started on a shoestring, with little money but much passion and
conviction. Much like the women and children they were dedicated to
serving, they were brave, resilient, and never gave up hope.
Today, we see the results of their vision: a place where anyone who is a
victim of or at risk of domestic violence, can come for help, support and
most importantly, belief-in their story, in their dignity, in their right
to live free from fear and harm."
