Accupuncture

    • Michelle Grasek, Licensed Acupuncturist.  "Michelle is a licensed acupuncturist and holds Diplomate status in Chinese herbology.  She currently provides acupuncture and Chinese medicine at The Center for Body Wellness in Irondequoit, NY at 1355 Titus Avenue. Michelle specializes in treating chronic pain but is happy to see patients with all kinds of illnesses and symptoms, including insomnia, stress, multiple sclerosis and more. She is also trained in the Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture technique, a natural way to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and restore vitality to any complexion.

Acupuncture is an important part of the ancient healing system of traditional Chinese medicine. Very thin needles are inserted into various areas of the body to help reduce pain and improve energy. Only stainless steel, pre-sterlized, single-use needles are used. Acupuncture should not be painful; in fact, many patients are surprised to find that acupuncture is virtually painless and that they are able to fall asleep during treatment.  If you have questions about acupuncture, Chinese medicine, cosmetic acupuncture, or would like to discuss your condition, feel free to give Michelle a call today at (315) 209-7507. She would be happy to speak with you."

Reiki is the practice of transmitting healing energy through the hands. “Rei” [ra] means spiritual or sacred and “ki” [ke] means universal life force energy [that spark that animates all living things]. Reiki is the one thing on this earth that has no opposite or down side. It is a technique for balancing and aligning a client’s energies naturally within his/her physical, emotional, mental and spirit bodies at all levels and dimensions."

They have not given up hope that a cause and a cure will be found. Cataract Surgery

  • Before you agree to have cataract surgery visit Dysphotopsia. There are many misconceptions about cataract surgery and many of those misconceptions are held by cataract surgeons. If you don't ask the right questions or evaluate your surgeon carefully you may come out of your surgery with a condition named dysphotopsia. Dysphotopsia is completely preventable if you have the correct size lens replacement.

Children

I am a licensed mental health counselor and certified chemical dependency counselor in New York State.

I have counseled hundreds of people over 25 years, dealing with dozens of issues, including substance use, quitting smoking, recovery from trauma, depression, and violence. I use a number of techniques, including Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused and Client Centered Therapy, selecting from each as they seem appropriate. However, I have found that techniques are not as important as the working alliance that the counselor and the client build together."

Every patient receives the full results of her exams before she leaves the clinic. Testing, such as ultrasound, additional views and core biopsies, are performed during the same appointment, rather than have the patient return at a later date. This helps to reduce a woman's anxiety over waiting for additional appointments, tests and results."

Government Programs

  • New York State Department of Health.
  • Not Me Not Now.  "In 1994, Monroe County launched Not Me, Not Now, a multifaceted abstinence-only campaign to reduce the teen pregnancy rate in Monroe County.

An advertising campaign serves as the centerpiece of Not Me, Not Now. The campaign, which features children, communicates the consequences of teenage pregnancy and motivates teens to remain abstinent.
Not Me, Not Now has expanded its efforts by visiting area schools to discuss the program in more detail and explore how various components can be incorporated into existing curriculums. This outreach has increased the awareness of Not Me, Not Now to those who were once unfamiliar with the program. Many administrators and teachers have found that the materials compliment their lessons.

New this year, a quarterly newsletter will be mailed to kids, ages 9-14, throughout Monroe County. Through this huge undertaking, the County is confident that the Not Me, Not Now message will be reinforced."

Pilates mat work is a method of body conditioning that combines a unique series of stretching and strengthening exercises that strengthen and lengthen muscles, increase flexibility and balance, build strength in the core/abdominals, improve posture and spinal alignment, improve joint mobility and blood circulation, reduce stress, and teach the body and spine to work efficiently, therefore preventing injuries. Pilates mat work is an engaging and intelligent form of body conditioning for people of all ages and physical abilities.

Melanie Aceto of Pilates Matworks is certified through the Kane School of Core Integration in NYC. Women's Health Resources

  • Alternatives for Battered Women.  "Twenty five years ago, a group of concerned community members vowed that no one in danger of being abused in their own homes, by their own loved ones, should ever be alone and without refuge again.

They started on a shoestring, with little money but much passion and conviction. Much like the women and children they were dedicated to serving, they were brave, resilient, and never gave up hope.

Today, we see the results of their vision: a place where anyone who is a victim of or at risk of domestic violence, can come for help, support and most importantly, belief-in their story, in their dignity, in their right to live free from fear and harm."
